Together Again for the First Time is in previews and audiences are loving this breath of funny fresh air!
"It was wonderful!" "That was soooooo funny!" "Good show, really enjoyed it!" "They're both so talented!"
From the press release -- Philly’s funniest friends, Artistic Director at Act II Playhouse, Tony Braithwaite, and Producing Artistic Director at 1812 Productions, Jennifer Childs, have created and are sharing the spotlight in a new comedy cabaret, Together Again For the First Time. Music Direction and piano accompaniment are by Owen Robbins. Reflecting the pace and style of classic comedy duos Mike Nichols and Elaine May, Carol Burnett and Tim Conway, and the legendary variety shows that made watching TV a family activity, Braithwaite and Childs merge their wit and musical chops in a high-energy performance of songs, sketches and hilarious asides.
“Working with Jen Childs is one of my favorite things to do - ever,'' says Braithwaite, “we never stop laughing!” He added, “We both wanted to bring the vaudeville nature and pure fun of the 60’s and 70’s variety TV shows to the stage, and we want people to come ready to laugh with abandon.”
TONY BRAITHWAITE: Act II Playhouse has been an artistic home for Tony since 2003 when he first began appearing in many of Act II‘s most popular productions, including My Fair Lady, Art, Say Goodnight Gracie, Heeere’s Tony!, First Impressions and Look Mom, I’m Swell! Tony began his tenure as Artistic Director here in 2012, and since that time has written, directed, and/or starred in dozens of shows, including Electile Dysfunction, Didn't Your Father Have This Talk With You?, Driving Miss Daisy, Forbidden Broadway, and several by Neil Simon. For over two decades, Tony has worked in and around Philadelphia as a director, comic, writer, emcee, and actor with theatres such as the Kimmel Center, Arden Theatre Company, Philadelphia Theatre Company, Montgomery Theater, 1812 Productions, Delaware Theatre Company, and the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, among others. Tony is a 13-time Barrymore Award nominee, a four-time emcee, and a three-time winner (two wins for performances at Act II: The Big Bang and The Story of My Life). Since 1995 Tony has also been the Director of Dramatics at his beloved alma mater, St. Joseph's Prep. www.tonybraithwaite.com
